Fundamentals of Effective Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Higher Education


There are a variety of strategies to foster effective teaching, learning and assessment in higher education. The goal of this workshop is to raise awareness regarding some of these best practices from an evidence based perspective. Specifically, participants will work on hands-on activities in teams as well as individually to explore relevant concepts and tools. Moreover, participants will utilize best practices to design and develop learning modules in their own disciplinary context.

Introduction


There are a variety of strategies to foster effective teaching, learning and assessment in higher education. The goal of this workshop is to raise awareness regarding some of these best practices from an evidence based perspective. Specifically, participants will work on hands-on activities in teams as well as individually to explore relevant concepts and tools. Moreover, participants will utilize best practices to design and develop learning modules in their own disciplinary context.

NOTE: All short term and long duration capacity building programmes for teachers/faculty ranging from one week to one month as well as seminars, workshops in different pedagogic and discipline specific areas being conducted by centers such as Schools of Education (SoEs), Teaching Learning Centers (TLCs), Faculty Development Centers (FDCs), Centers for Excellence in Science and Mathematics (CESMEs), Centers for Academic Leadership and Education Management (CALEMs) under PMMMNMTT scheme shall be taken into consideration for fulfilment of the requirements as laid down in Career Advancement Scheme of UGC regulations.

Learning Objectives


  1. Evaluate fundamental principles of effective teaching, learning, and assessment
  2. Formulate personal teaching philosophy statements
  3. Design instruction to address diversity of students
  4. Examine assessment and evaluation tools, techniques and strategies
  5. Create learning modules for domain and disciplinary concepts incorporating best practices of effective teaching and learning
